Running for Governor after never going to vote is like running for Pope after never going to mass. She claims to care so deeply, to be so passionate, to be so committed to the issues she's campaigning on -- but she never lifted a finger to affect these issues until the day she decided to be elected to our highest state office? Seriously, you don't see a problem with that?

(If you needed open heart surgery, would you hire the first plumber who showed up promising to do his best and apply his real-world experience to your chest?)

Your "that's the best the Dems can offer up?" question is just silly. First, not everyone offering these criticisms are Dems. Second, not all Dem criticisms come from a single oracle of Dem spin. Third, if you think that's the only or best criticism being offered of Whitless you're not paying attention. Fourth, the lesser part of this issue is the voting record, the greater part is the blatant dishonesty -- the total lack of integrity in answering reporters questions.

Your Kerry comment is completely off-base. The man has had a long and distinguished career in the U.S. Senate, wrestling with a great number of the very issues he would have been called upon to deal with as President. The Reps had many criticisms of his qualifications to be President, but they had nothing to do with his expertise on national policy or his fulfillment of his basic civic responsibility to vote.

Your final comment is beyond comprehension. You defend Palin's nomination because unlike Obama she actually has "experience in being an executive in government." But you say this as a wrap up to post in which you are intending to defend Whitless' complete lack of experience in government (to this point of not even voting). Which is side of this argument are you on?

Whitless is another egomanical CEO who is tired of seeing her picture on the front page of the business section and wants to see it on the front page of the A section. Having made a series of massive blunders at E-Bay, she is seeking a different legacy in the political realm. And tired of having to put people on the payroll to kiss her ring, she is hoping to be elected to a position where she will be respected and honored merely for the significance of her title. She is also bored in her post-CEO life, unable to boost her low self esteem with philanthropy or speeches to mindless "motivational seminars" in convention halls, and now feeling kinda special in a Sarah Palin-like way with all the national Republicans calling to tell her how amazing she is.

In other words, Whitless is the next filthy-rich lamb striding eagerly to the political consultant's slaughterhouse. Her path is well paved by the likes of Unz, Zschau, Huffington, Simon, Riordan, Issa, Checchi, et. al.

Hey, keep reading those briefing books, cabbage-patch Meg. You've got a lot of catching-up to do!

Ya know, I'm not a huge Meg Whitman fan, but I'm still a bit confused as to why the concern about whether she voted in every election (maybe she didn't like any of the choices and didn't feel like going down and standing in line to pull the levers - or blacken the dots). Does that mean she won't be an effective executive? No. So what's the point? Is that the best the Dems can offer up? Seems like the Rep's said the same thing about Kerry, only to be told to quit being so petty. I agree. Surely there's some point that really matters - like whether she's ever experienced the mindless non-sense involved with being a government executive.

Which brings me to the ridiculous question about whether Ms. Whitman would have hired Ms. Palin at eBay. Frankly, I wouldn't do it either. They are not the same thing. I agree with Meg that Ms. Palin would not be a top choice to run one of the biggest dot-coms in the world. But she does have the experience in being an executive in government - something our current President does not have.

Thanks for that...

She's done. Candidates like her can wriggle out of a problem like this if either the times are so in their favor, like Arnold in 2003 with the groping story, or if they're facing an underfunded opponent. Whitman doesn't have that luxury. Instead, she's up against a primary opponent with plenty of money to remind voters of her problems. She's also showing she's just not a good candidate, something that goes beyond ideology. She's not used to tough questions, and she's too evasive. That's not a good combination in this climate.

Meg Whitless has set a new land speed record for lies per hour. The real test will be whether Amy Chance and the other MSMers let it pass -- or turn up the heat until the candidate comes clean. Whitless is betting that if she just plays the broken record routine, eventually the press will simply move on no matter how egregious her lies.

Unfortunately, history shows that Whitless is probably right. Reporters and editors will cave to the pressure to talk about something new instead of demanding that she answer the unanswered questions and correct her erroneous statements.
