Good piece, but this is not a problem of the unconventional media, it's a problem of the conventional media.

Our old friend Garry South, paid more by Newsom than by Steve Westly fergoshsakes, spun up Carla Marinucci at the Chronicle to compare apples and oranges and ignore the pollster she used as the baseline for her story.

Carla's been at the Chron forever, and this would have been in the newspaper as easily as it was online.

Then Jack Kavanagh, the oldline TV reporter who runs Rough & Tumble, put it on his aggregator site.

Chris Cilizza, the thoroughly conventional reporter at the Washington Post whose coverage of the presidential campaign was quite dreadful, spun it onto his blog.

That's as old media as it gets, guys.

Also, this poll didn't really change the view of the campaign.

If it had, I wouldn't have taken two weeks to getting around to mentioning it.

After all, I contacted Jim Moore, which Carla didn't do, as soon as the poll appeared on Kos to see what he made of its wildly divergent numbers ...

Perhaps we should give an appropriate nickname Newsome - something reminiscent of Nixon - Tricky Dicky?
